It was a very cold day. Long shadows and bright late afternoon light make for good photos.
He’s sort of into The Terminator (the 1984 movie) right now, so this is his take on Terminator-style.
*Technically the sun hasn’t moved. The earth has titled. (but you know what I mean)
One can never have too many walking sticks. These were all made by Smoochie (my husband).
This was a found skull (we didn’t kill the deer). It used to have antlers but the squirrels gnawed them off.
Alas, I’m not really able to get philosophical about clear winter light today. Maybe I need to watch Kung Fu Panda again. I also don’t have 300+ words to share about Thanksgiving. This year we are breaking the mold and going WAY non-traditional for turkey-day. We gave away our turkey (my husband got one from work) and we are NOT cooking. Anything. I’m hoping for Chinese takeout. I mean obviously I’m thankful. Everyday. Happy children, nice yard. We’re very blessed. That is sort of the whole point of Spy Garden website. Simple pleasures. Kids and puppies are cute, etc., etc. My husband and I have had 10+ years of textbook traditional Thanksgiving dinners, so we figure there’s no harm in shaking things up a bit this year.
He asked me a few minutes ago, “So what’s the deal for tomorrow? What are we doing?”
I replied, “Whatever we want.”
And for that, we are thankful!
Oh how fun to shake things up! Well, what do you think? Was it o.k. to celebrate a bit differently this year? We’ll be celebrating with another American family on Sunday; their house, so for me that is a huge “letting go”! You are so right: we have so much to be thankful for! :-) Dana
Yes, it was very relaxing! ;) Thanks for stopping by!
A big guffaw on Dexie’s “devil horns” – so funny! Love the Spy’s get-up, definitely Terminator-styling! And that Baby, what a sweet cupcake she is – hope you and yours enjoyed your low-key Thanksgiving. One doesn’t need turkey and the fixings to feel abundantly blessed.
It was a good thanksgiving, hope yours was as well. I thought Dexie’s devil horns were quite funny as well hahah ;)
The sun has moved so far south as to be in Tasmania where on Sunday it is officially “summer”. I am going on a road trip with my 2 daughters down to Hobart (Tasmania’s capital city) for an overnight stay and a bit of crazed Oriental food shopping and a nice meal at a Korean restaurant. We are going to wend our way back “the long way” (not sure which way that is but my daughters have maps…) in the hunt for early cherries. Christmas is coming…EEK! LOVE those walking sticks…obviously the reason why he hasn’t been the subject of concrete shoes for past misdemeanour’s (along the lines of “Death to Smoochie”… ;) ). Clever Smoochie! Steve makes wooden spoons when he can be bothered (which waxes and wanes like the moon). We used to give them away as blog give-aways but we have run out…best galvanise him into action again methinks…
And thus Spy Garden and all of her contents sink peacefully into the slow decent of cold winter knowing that they will at least be able to do up their pants to gird their loins for the coming wintery onslaught and like most of the rest of the world, they won’t bother to mass slaughter dim witted turkeys in order to collectively add to their prospective future medical bills. Kudos Spy Garden and all who sails (or terminates) on her! The “rest of the world” salutes you and your decision to remain low key and simple :)
;). Have a great trip!
Great post! Happy Thanksgiving!
