Young garlic setting scapes: These plants are one year old; grown from scape seeds

The scapes can be cut and used as you would garlic. If left on the plant each scape will produce little round mini-bulb seeds. It takes about three years to get a good-sized garlic head from the scape seeds. You can also grow garlic from individual cloves planted in summer/fall and get full-sized garlic heads the following spring.

All of this garlic began with a handful of little garlic seeds given to us by some good friends. We planted the seeds in 2010.
